DIY painted upholstered chair

Hello everyone, Im going to give a quick how-to on painting upholstery/fabric! I get asked all the time how I did this chair, its super cheap and oh so easy!

BEFORE                                                                      AFTER

Ok so I found this little treasure at a yard sale for $5 yep :) It once called a Victoria Secret it's home, not surprising the cheesy gold and hot pink has the store written all over it. But I fell in love the moment I laid eyes on its "90s" gold exterior and knew I could transform it into something rather charming! I thought about reupholstering it and probably will eventually. But I needed a quick fix and I liked the diamond pattern so I got brave and pulled out the paint!
Total cost: $15 (including chair!)
Total: time: 5 hours
Supplies: Sand paper
Small can of high gloss white paint
               roller
Acrylic paint ( from a craft store, like a buck)
               fine tipped paint brush

Step one-  The paint  on the frame was pretty badly chipped so it needed to be sanded down to even out the surface!

Step two- I took the white high gloss paint and watered it down so it acted like more of a die then a paint I then rolled the entire fabric white washing out the gold and reducing the hot pink to a light pink. I also painted the wood frame with the same paint but undiluted. I then allowed the chair to dry overnight! It looked like this:

sorry for the bad picture :(

Step three-  once the paint had dried, I detailed the light pink diamonds with a fire truck red Acrylic paint and a fine tipped brush, outlining and filling in each diamond until they where complete!

And thats it! Its that easy!!!

*As you can see I am in the middle of painting another chair as well, if you do decide to paint a chair you want to choose one where the upholstery is tightly woven and somewhat stiff already. The paint will change the texture of the chair!
