Fake-O-versary

Jonny and I will be celebrating our 5 year aniversary on the 15th of June, But we will be on the road with the band so Jonny suprised me with an overnight getaway to milwaukee! I felt so loved and thankful for our time together. Bare with me as this is a big "ol" post, but I didn't want to leave anything out!

We kicked things off by doing a little shopping in my old stomping grounds, the Third Ward!

I had no idea the hotel we where staying at and when we pulled up to the Pfister (one of the nicest hotels in Milwaukee) I was so excited and totally surprised!

The view from our room!

We started out the night by having a cocktail at the rooftop bar Blue
Then walked to dinner at a favorite spot, the Coquette Cafe ( a little french cafe!)

The next morning was absolutely beautiful! We spent most of the time on the bay window enjoying the view!

Alterra and a walk, two of my absolute faves!!!

I can honestly say the last five years have been the greatest adventure of my life! There have been ups and downs but I am unbelievable thankful for my amazing husband and wonderful marriage. I never dreamed that marriage could be this great!

Life on the road

Last week I went on a short mini tour with the band! Often times people tend to over glamorize life on the road.  Don't get me wrong, we meet amazing people, get to see this beautiful country and experience things I never thought I would.  But at this stage in the band one night we could be staying  in a 5 star hotel and the next night could be sleeping in our 15 passenger van in a wal-mart parking lot. Spending weeks on end with 5 boys in a small space is not always the easiest of times for a girlie, I do have to say though that being the only girl with five brothers in my family was great training.  Despite its crazy ups and downs it is whole lotta fun! Last week we journeyed down to Kansas, Iowa, and the Nebraska area, here a few pics from that little adventure.

We had a chance to stop and stay in Omaha and see Jonnys Family! LOVE them!!! Our little cousin Josi made us all wear crowns made out of leaves and sticks. lots of fun until I found a caterpillar in my hair, leaf and stick crowns not so fun and magical after that.

The caterpillar became Josi's new bestie!

Lots of driving, and some small town stops for some eats, thats not yellow gatorade btw, thats a product of to much water and not being able to stop! gross I know! but true!

Sound check at a collage festival they played in Kansas!
me doing what I do at shows, run the merch table! Typical, I know! Jonny doing what he does at shows, drums.

The bed we slept in that night, yes it was a twin and yes it was in a house occupied by 9 collage men! but I was thankful for our own room, (that was clean!) a bed and any excuse to be close to my man i'll take it!

We started off this week finding out that Supernova Sunrise is #1 again on the charts this week! So cool! We feel so blessed!

 DIY HERRINGBONE CANVAS

Last week I had the opportunity to help one of my dear friend Becca out with this amazing DIY Herringbone canvas. A print like this can sell anywhere from $118 to $360.  Becca being the creative DIYer that she is whipped up this fabulous one up for only $12.21. I love a good deal,  DIY projects and spending time with friends,  and this awesome day had them all wrapped up in one blog worthy package!

Becca and her darling offspring Arwen!

Cost:  $12.12
Time : 4 hrs.
Supplies:
- A canvas any size, (Becca got her's from Hobby Lobby on sale)
-Various colored paint (most of us have half empty cans sitting around, that could easily be used! Becca                only purchased the Neon pink the rest was up cycled!)
-White spray-paint
- Thick masking tape.

*Sadly I showed up half way through the project so the first few steps are lacking in pictures :/

STEP 1:
Begin by  painting the canvas. Becca Used 4 background colors,  pink,  kaki, a peacock green/blue and a metallic. The pink and metallic were sprayed and the peacock and the kaki where painted on with a bush and in no particular order just left up to your creative judgment!.  Let the paint dry.

STEP 2:
After the paint has dried, You can begin to measure the tape out, Becca did about "3'1/2" strips, the pattern is not as complicated as it looks,  you want to place the tape diagonally meeting up with opposite diagonal strips.  Working from one side to another until the canvas is complete.
* A tip would be too use an edger (something like a credit card!) on the tape to make sure all the bubbles are out and the ends are flat.
*If you want the "negative space" look its best to do the whole pattern and then remove strips of tape before painting.

It should look like this

STEP 3: Spray paint the whole canvas white! And let it dry!

It should look like this!

We decided to take a walk while we waited for it to dry!

STEP 4: REMOVE THE TAPE!

STEP 5: Enjoy your new ART!
